Meet MacKenzie Kampa

Most people who see a psychiatric nurse practitioner walk away with a medication prescription and not much else. With Reverie Mental Health, you can expect care to include more than medicine.

I'm MacKenzie Kampa, DNP, PMHNP

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Founder of Reverie Mental Health

I work as a psychiatric nurse practitioner based in the Twin Cities, and I founded Reverie Mental Health to provide the kind of care I wish more people had access to: comprehensive, compassionate, and focused on the intersection between biology and psychology.

    Here are my professional values:
  • You are the expert on yourself.
  • You deserve to be treated with respect and compassion.
  • “Be curious, not judgmental.” (thanks, Ted Lasso).
  • The best care is science-backed and collaborative.
  • You should feel safe, informed, and empowered in your treatment.

My Professional Background

I started my nursing career in the emergency department at Overlake Hospital in the suburbs of Seattle, WA. I loved the pace and intensity of the ER - but I was struck by how often we were treating mental health crises that had been building for years. I didn't want to just respond in the moment - I wanted to build longer relationships with patients outside of the hospital. So I applied to graduate school to receive training as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

My first role as a PMHNP was with the U.S. Air Force in Anchorage, AK. After transitioning out of active duty, I moved into outpatient practice with M Health Fairview. Over time, I saw the need for a different kind of care - especially for moms, dads, and young professionals navigating anxiety, identity, intrusive thoughts, and burnout. That's what led me to open Reverie Mental Health.

Today, I offer integrative and psychodynamically informed care for:
  • Moms and dads (including perinatal and postpartum mental health)
  • Professionals navigating anxiety, OCD, and major life transitions
  • Adults exploring identity, meaning, purpose, and inner conflict

Whether we're addressing your symptoms with medication, exploring lifelong relational patterns through psychodynamic therapy, or using integrative interventions, my goal is the same: to help you feel more like you again.

My care approach involves transparency and clear and detailed conversations about risks and benefits of treatments available to you. I want you to be confident in the mental health treatment choices that make the most sense for you.
